ZetaChain
[ZETA]

ZetaChain is an EVM-compatible Layer 1 built on Cosmos bridging different blockchains and offering seamless interoperability.

ZetaChain is a Layer 1 blockchain and interoperability platform that enables cross-chain data exchanges and smart contract executions. DApps built on ZetaChain can seamlessly interact with multiple blockchains, treating them like a single network. This omnichannel functionality supports smart contract platforms like Ethereum and Polygon and non-smart contract chains like Bitcoin and Dogecoin.

Founded in 2021 by Ankur Nandwani, a former Coinbase team member and creator of the Basic Attention Token (BAT), ZetaChain quickly gained traction. After launching its testnet in 2022, the project raised $27 million in venture capital funding in 2023 and launched its mainnet on February 1, 2024.

ZetaChain's platform, built on the Cosmos SDK and Tendermint consensus engine, uses a proof-of-stake (PoS) algorithm with smart contract capabilities. Its smart contracts can read and write data across any connected chain, enabling seamless asset transfers and execution across multiple networks. This eliminates the need for asset bridging, even for chains like Bitcoin that lack native smart contract functionality. ZetaChain's architecture includes ZetaEVM, an Ethereum-compatible engine powering its omnichain smart contracts.
