Scroll is a scalable L2 solution on Ethereum using ZK-rollups.
Scroll is a Layer 2 scaling solution for Ethereum that leverages zero-knowledge proof (zk) technology to enhance the network’s scalability, reduce transaction fees, and maintain Ethereum’s security and decentralization. It is built as a zkEVM rollup, meaning it is bytecode-level compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), allowing existing Ethereum smart contracts and decentralized applications to migrate seamlessly to Scroll without modification. Scroll processes transactions off-chain and generates cryptographic proofs that are verified on Ethereum’s mainnet, ensuring security and censorship resistance.
The Scroll network architecture consists of three main components: Scroll Nodes (including sequencers and relayers that process transactions and produce blocks), the Roller Network (which generates zk validity proofs in parallel to speed up verification), and Rollup and Bridge Contracts (which link Scroll to Ethereum and finalize blocks). Launched on mainnet in October 2023, Scroll has quickly become one of the largest Ethereum Layer 2 solutions by total value locked (TVL), supporting faster, cheaper, and more accessible Ethereum usage.
