Flare is an EVM-based Layer 1 that enhances utility by offering access to reliable data from other chains and the internet.

Flare is an EVM-based Layer 1 blockchain designed to enhance the utility of blockchain technology by offering decentralized access to reliable data from other chains and the internet. It features a proof of stake (PoS) consensus mechanism and supports interoperability through two core protocols: the State Connector and the Flare Time Series Oracle (FTSO).

The State Connector allows Flare to reach consensus on events occurring outside its network, integrating seamlessly with external blockchains and APIs. Meanwhile, the FTSO is a decentralized network that retrieves external time series data, such as asset prices, through a network of incentivized data providers. Token holders can participate by delegating their FLR tokens to these providers, earning rewards in return.

Flare’s primary goals are to advance DeFi by broadening the types of data accessible on-chain and to facilitate cross-chain interoperability. The network launched its mainnet in July 2022 and has since focused on expanding its ecosystem. The native FLR token is used for transaction fees, spam prevention, and various applications, including DeFi and governance.
