BitTorrent is a P2P file-sharing protocol and torrent platform with a community of over 100 million users.

BitTorrent is a widely used peer-to-peer distributed communication technology that revolutionizes the distribution of large and highly sought-after data. Unlike traditional methods that rely on a central server, BitTorrent eliminates the need for such a server. Instead, it enables software endpoints known as "clients" to collaborate, ensuring the efficient and reliable simultaneous distribution of massive files to numerous clients. This approach reduces reliance on any single weak point, such as a server connection.

The BitTorrent protocol is designed to optimize the utilization of each client's upload and download bandwidth. It aims to achieve a balanced and efficient peer-to-peer content delivery across all participating clients. By harnessing the combined resources of multiple clients, BitTorrent enables faster and more resilient data distribution, making it particularly effective for large-scale file-sharing scenarios.

Back in 2000-10th, BitTorrent held a significant share of the total internet traffic due to its advantages over other transfer protocols. However, as internet speeds accelerated in 2008, its popularity steadily declined. Consequently, BitTorrent faced challenges in monetizing its service and was eventually acquired by the Tron Foundation in 2019.
