Aave is the DeFi protocol that enables individuals to lend and borrow cryptocurrencies.

Aave is a decentralized finance protocol that provides users with the ability to lend and borrow cryptocurrencies. By depositing digital assets into "lending pools," users can create funds that the protocol can lend out. Currently, Aave offers over 30 pools for Ethereum-based assets, including stablecoins such as Tether, DAI, and USD Coin, as well as lending pools for other cryptocurrencies like ETH, BAT, and MANA.

When users provide liquidity by depositing tokens into a pool, they receive aTokens in return. For instance, if a user deposits ETH into the liquidity pool, they receive aETH in return.

In order to borrow from the platform, Aave borrowers must provide collateral, and they can only borrow up to a certain percentage of the value of their collateral. To account for the volatility of the cryptocurrency markets, the Aave protocol has an algorithm that automatically liquidates a borrower’s collateral if its value falls below a specified ratio.

Aave also uses a metric called "health factor" to determine the safety of a loan. This is calculated as the ratio of collateral deposited to the amount borrowed, and a health factor above 1 is typically needed to avoid automatic liquidation.

Interest rates for borrowing and lending vary depending on factors like the amount of liquidity in a pool and the specific cryptocurrency being used.
