S&P Global to Acquire OpenZeppelin

S&P Global has agreed to acquire OpenZeppelin, the security firm behind the open-source smart-contract library that underpins much of onchain finance, in a deal with undisclosed terms.

OpenZeppelin's audited Contracts library secures more than $37 trillion in value transferred, spanning the majority of major stablecoins and tokenized funds, and the firm has run over 900 security engagements since its founding in 2015. It will continue to operate under its own name as a distinct business unit, with CEO Demian Brener reporting to Yann Le Pallec, President of S&P Global Ratings.

The move pushes one of TradFi's biggest data and ratings houses deeper into digital assets, positioning S&P Global to build onchain security assessments and benchmarks as capital markets migrate onto blockchains.
