S&P Global closes OpenZeppelin deal, Contracts behind $38T moved onchain

The acquisition first announced on September 17 is now finalized, with OpenZeppelin officially part of S&P Global. Financial terms were not disclosed, and S&P Global does not expect a material impact on its financial results.

Founded in 2015, OpenZeppelin has run 900+ security engagements and surfaced 10,000+ vulnerabilities before production. Its open-source library, OpenZeppelin Contracts, underpins over $38T in value transferred, including many of the largest stablecoins and tokenized funds.

OpenZeppelin Contracts and all of the firm's open-source tools remain free and publicly maintained on GitHub.

OpenZeppelin will operate as its own business unit under the same brand, with founder Demian Brener reporting to Yann Le Pallec, President of S&P Global Ratings. The deal pushes S&P Global's risk assessment into the smart contract layer beneath tokenized assets.
