Relay blocks Binance hacker addresses, pauses some bridge routes
Laundering of the roughly $6.43 billion stolen from Binance has spread across 11 blockchains, and cross-chain bridge Relay is now moving to cut off its own routes. The protocol says some transactions and routes are paused or delayed while it blocks addresses tied to the hacker.
Relay is working with Binance and law enforcement. The FBI had earlier urged DeFi services and other virtual asset providers to block transactions linked to addresses used by North Korea's TraderTraitor group to launder the proceeds.
About $2.85 billion, or 44% of the stolen funds, has already been frozen or seized, while roughly $3.24 billion remains in linked addresses.
The move contrasts with THORChain, whose founder has defended permissionless settlement despite pressure to block hack-linked flows. Relay users may see delays on some routes while the restrictions stay in place.
