Polygon proposal seeks hard fork to recover 70.49M POL from hackers

After the Polymarket and Binance incidents in late October, Polygon block producers added the attacker addresses to the Bor transaction block list. That stopped outgoing transfers but offered no way to return the funds, so a new governance proposal asks for a one-time PoS hard fork to finish the job.

The fork would zero the native balances of five blocked addresses and credit the same amounts to recovery wallets controlled by the affected companies. Four Polymarket-linked addresses hold about 23.86M POL, while one Binance-linked address holds about 46.63M POL. The same Binance address also received 6.19M USDT, which Tether has frozen separately and which falls outside the fork.

In total, about 70.49M POL (roughly $6.5M) would move, with total POL supply unchanged.

The proposal goes to the Polygon Protocol Governance Call on November 5 at 14:30 UTC. The activation block, fork name and client release are still undecided, and both companies must prove control of their destination wallets first. The change would rewrite account balances without the holders' private keys, which affects validators, RPC providers and indexers.
