Pavel Durov released Gram Wallet, a self-custodial wallet built directly into Telegram, now live for a small initial group of users before a gradual rollout to the app's more than one billion users.

Unlike the third-party Wallet that previously lived inside Telegram, Gram Wallet is Durov's own product. Each user holds their own address behind a 24-word recovery phrase, so private keys stay outside Telegram's reach. Transfers are fee-free and the wallet natively supports Telegram Collectibles.

Access is opening in waves over the coming weeks and through September, expanding region by region as the network scales. GRAM rose about 7% on the news, with trading volume up roughly 137%.

The rollout puts a self-custody wallet in front of one of the largest user bases in tech, a notable step for onchain access at consumer scale.
