OKX launches Shield in the US with up to $500,000 in account cover
After a debut in Europe in September, OKX has brought its Shield account-takeover program to the United States. It reimburses users when an outside party hijacks their account and moves funds through phishing, malware or SIM-swap attacks.
Every eligible US customer gets up to $100,000 in protection with no subscription or activation fee. Caps rise to $250,000 for VIP 1-3 accounts and $500,000 for VIP 4 and above.
To qualify, users must enable a passkey, large withdrawal protection, web withdrawal blocking and transaction verification, while Shield scans linked devices for malware, rooting or jailbreaks. Cover stays active only while all of these safeguards remain on.
The terms describe Shield as a discretionary goodwill program, not insurance. Each person can get one approved claim per lifetime, claims must be filed within 72 hours, and payouts are made in stablecoins.
