Nubank and Mercado Pago pause crypto transfers after provider outage
Customers of two of Latin America's largest fintechs lost the ability to move crypto on and off platform on November 6, as Nubank and Mercado Pago halted crypto deposits and withdrawals. Buying and selling crypto inside the Nubank app kept working.
Nubank's notice blamed a failure at an external provider responsible for verifying transactions and said customer assets and data remain safe. Mercado Pago cited instability at an external data supplier and warned that incoming deposits would be delayed. Neither company named the provider.
The pause comes in the same week Chainalysis, whose screening tools Nubank uses, disclosed a breach exposing credentials of all its users and took its KYT and address-screening tools offline. No official link between the two events has been confirmed.
