NBA names Kalshi and Polymarket its preferred prediction markets

After nearly two years of talks that began when Kalshi listed NBA champion futures in January 2025, the league has signed a framework welcoming prediction markets as sponsors. Kalshi and Polymarket get the "preferred prediction market exchange" designation, official league data via Sportradar and the right to use league, team and event logos in their apps and marketing.

The NBA also signed a memorandum of understanding with the CFTC on integrity-related information sharing, as the NHL and MLB did before it. The CFTC did not grant the league's request to raise the minimum trading age from 18 to 21; instead, both platforms agreed to enhanced monitoring for users under 21. Players and league staff are barred from trading NBA event contracts.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but the combined annual value of the deals is estimated at $100M to $200M, including rights fees, media spend, data fees and revenue shares.

DraftKings is expanding its existing NBA deal to cover prediction markets, and other operators may now advertise during games and sponsor teams, including the 14 teams in states without legal online sports betting. The NFL remains the largest US league without a prediction market deal.
