Kraken parent Payward and the London Stock Exchange are partnering to bring UK stocks onchain, tokenizing the 100 largest London-listed companies as xStocks for 24/7 trading.

Subject to regulatory approval, the LSE will begin listing xStocks and supporting their trading on LSE 24, its newly announced 24-hour venue that is set to eventually span tokenized US, EU and UK equities. The two firms will also explore native, LSE-issued equity tokens that let exchange members issue and serve shares directly onchain.

The partnership could open UK-listed shares to investors in more than 110 countries, though xStocks remain unavailable to UK and US residents for now.

In just over a year, xStocks have generated more than $40 billion in total trading volume, nearly $20 billion of it settled onchain, and now count more than 200,000 holders, according to Payward.
