The Bermuda government is extending its onchain economy plan to everyday commerce: it has selected WalletConnect to bring crypto payments to local merchants, with ticketing platform PTIX as the first integration.

Payments at PTIX are expected to go live in the second quarter of 2027.

Under the setup, buyers pay event organizers directly from their own wallets, so PTIX does not take custody of the funds. The goal is to cut local merchants' dependence on costly card and payment processors.

The move builds on the onchain economy initiative Bermuda announced earlier this year with backing from Circle and Coinbase, which focuses on USDC payments and merchant adoption across the island.
