a16z reportedly drops crypto from its flagship blockchain fund name

Andreessen Horowitz built one of the largest dedicated blockchain venture practices, and it is now reportedly removing "crypto" from the name of its flagship blockchain fund while widening its mandate to other investment areas.

One of the fund's founding members is also reportedly stepping down. The new name and the exact sectors the fund will expand into have not been disclosed.

a16z crypto closed its fifth fund at $2.2B in May 2026, about half the size of the $4.5B Fund 4 raised in 2022.

Fund 5 is led by managing partner Chris Dixon with general partners Ali Yahya, Guy Wuollet and Eddy Lazzarin, and targets stablecoins, onchain financial services and AI agent infrastructure. A rebrand would mark a shift in how one of the sector's biggest backers positions itself after a weaker market cycle.
