The Wall Street Journal reports that Hunter Biden plans to launch LAPTOP, a memecoin named after the 2020 laptop episode, on Coinbase's Base network on September 9, with a total supply of one billion tokens.

The token's structure is pointed. Founders including Biden will receive 30% of supply, barred from selling for six months and released in installments over two years. Another 20% is set aside in part for holders of President Trump's Official Trump (TRUMP) token, a move widely read as a jab at Trump as he and his family expand their own crypto ventures. Biden has framed decentralized digital assets as an inevitable future.

It is the latest sign that political branding has become its own memecoin category, following TRUMP and a wave of imitators. Whether LAPTOP finds durable demand or fades like most celebrity coins should be clear within days of the September 9 launch.
