Former Swift CEO Lazaro Campos joins OpenTrade as chairman
London-based stablecoin yield company OpenTrade has named former Swift CEO Lazaro Campos as its chairman. Campos led the interbank messaging network that links over 11,000 financial institutions, and has sat on the boards of the Bank of England's RTGS infrastructure, CHAPS and digital bank Starling. He currently chairs Payoneer Europe.
Founded in 2023, OpenTrade builds infrastructure that lets businesses offer dollar and euro returns backed by real-world assets without running their own investment stack. The appointment follows a $17M round in May led by Mercury Fund and Notion Capital, with a16z crypto, AlbionVC and CMCC Global also participating.
OpenTrade now holds $300M in total value locked, up from just over $200M in May, and has processed more than $1B in transactions over the past 12 months.
The hire brings a veteran of legacy payment rails into the stablecoin yield sector, as fintechs and financial firms look for compliant ways to pay returns on dollar balances held onchain.
