Electric Capital open-sourced Quest, the AI harness the crypto VC built for its own teams. It links AI chat to sensitive data that stays in-house unless a user approves.

Quest sessions get read-only access to approved services like Google and Slack, not the open internet. Any action others could see, like editing a spreadsheet or sending a Slack message, needs human approval shown in plain terms. Electric assumes no model is fully trusted, so Quest limits which tools a model can use: even a prompt injection hidden in an email can't act without a human's yes. It runs as a web app on the company's own infrastructure, with no software on user devices.

Electric says it built Quest to keep ownership of the business knowledge that piles up inside AI tools and to avoid relying on a single AI provider.

Quest already runs across Electric's Finance, Legal, IR and IT teams. The code is on GitHub under Apache 2.0, with custom models and local inference planned next.
