DTCC launches tokenization service with 34 securities on Canton
The custodian behind roughly $30 trillion in US securities now lets that inventory move onchain: the DTCC Tokenization Service is live, starting with 34 securities that include select large-cap Russell 1000 stocks, ETFs and US Treasuries.
Each token is backed 1:1 by securities held at the Depository Trust Company and carries the same legal and ownership rights as the underlying asset. Holders can transfer tokens peer-to-peer 24/7 between DTC-registered wallets, with built-in compliance controls and near real-time ownership tracking.
Two networks are live at launch: Canton Network (CIP-56 standard) and Besu, DTCC's private ERC-20 network. Stellar and Circle's Arc are expected in 2027.
DTCC plans to expand coverage across the Russell 1000 and additional ETFs over time, and to add further L1s and L2s based on client demand. Tokenized assets keep a single CUSIP across traditional and blockchain rails, aiming for one shared liquidity pool between TradFi and DeFi.
