Charles Hoskinson is building a new smart contract language for Cardano

Cardano developers already write smart contracts in Plutus and Aiken, while Midnight uses its own language, Compact. Now Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson is personally writing another one, together with Input Output Global engineer Lucas Rosa, who co-created Aiken.

The language would combine three tools: transaction intents, proof-carrying data and Groth16 proofs.

Intents let users state the outcome they want (for example, a swap only above a set price) and leave execution to the app. Proof-carrying data attaches cryptographic evidence that information follows certain rules, and Groth16 produces small proofs that can be checked quickly without revealing private inputs. Together, apps could coordinate trades and pass verified data between services, with Cardano checking a single small proof at the end.

Hoskinson has not disclosed the language's name, released any public code or given a date when developers can start using it.
