Akash Network picks Solana for migration, AKT to become an SPL token

Akash Network first said in October 2025 that it would deprecate its own Cosmos chain. Its core team has now selected Solana as the migration target: the decentralized compute marketplace will leave the akashnet-2 sovereign chain and be rebuilt as a native program on Solana mainnet. An Ethereum L2 was the other finalist.

The migration proposal goes to a vote on akashnet-2 and needs a 33.4% quorum plus majority approval. Two weeks after approval, and once two independent audits are complete, AKT will be issued as an SPL token on Solana.

Holders get a two-year, one-way migration portal at 1:1, with ticker, decimals and total supply unchanged.

The compute market switchover date will be set by a separate governance vote after audits and migration drills. Existing workloads keep running for 90 days after the switch, then the old chain halts. Staking rewards end at switchover, while validator roles end when the chain stops. Co-founder Greg Osuri cited dropping the cost of a sovereign chain, low fees, Solana's liquidity and users, and DePIN peers already there, such as Helium, Render and io.net.
