Variational is an on-chain brokerage-model derivatives platform that connects to TradFi liquidity via RFQ instead of bootstrapping orderbook depth from scratch. Built by ex-quant hedge fund founders (Columbia alumni, acquired by top crypto OTC desk in 2019) with a 23-person team from Jane Street, IMC, Virtu, Google, and Meta. Phase 1 launches in May 2026: RWA perps on US500, oil, gold, silver, and indices alongside 450+ existing crypto markets — all in a single USDC cross-margin account.
